Timber to Aluminium Bay window

Yesterday we installed a new bay window in aluminium – removing the existing timber frame which had rotted away. Kept the colonial bar look.

this is the opening we are working on.. note the someof the windows and doors in the background we made and installed. we also fixed the windows around the new pool addition so they comply with pool laws.
getting the frames in.
top panels in (pre-glazed). custom flashing being made to suit (cant make till fitted). note the large lintel above our frame is slightly out of square (not our frame) but will be clad and concealed.
glass going in. a mixture of 6.38 and 10.38 laminate glass
all glazed and trimmed where we can without waiting for custom trims/flashing. there will be a clearshield security door with a door closer fitted to comply with pool law, then the temp fence can go.

How fast this year has flown by. As deadline to our one and only break looms, we are pushing as much work out as possible. Some random work of what has been going on;

A pair of custom cedar gates. The curve was based off a template from the originals.
Gas strut awning window. one of two which will be used in a food/coffee van.

2 interesting jobs here. An Octagonal casement which will be double glazed. telescopic arm and catch. the windows HILL E33 are awning windows. they will have gas struts and will be installed into a food van. How cool.
just a couple of small fixed lite frames to go into someone new shed/basement set up.
4 panel sliding door being assembled. will have flydoors too.
this is american wallnut and is a job going to cremorne hotel. it will have reeded vertical glass. design by client which was a challenge to achieve.

This new sliding door frame is ready for the glass. We are glazing this with double glazed units.

4mm clear toughened 8mm argon gap 4mm claer toughened.

Builder will install themselves, so we wont get to see the finished result.

Commercial frames – automated door!

Well, its been a hectic and busy few months for us all. Our timberside is literally filled with frames at the moment, and supply chains seem to lag along. We even had a problem of getting grey laminate glass for a short while…

here we are running up endless strips of stop and parting beads. All cedar in this lot.
A rather large cedar door. We will hang it tomorrow as a cavity slider at a home.
Door and sash rails. Mortice and Tennon cuts exposed almost ready for assembly.
Made these very little custom casement “windows”. Mill finish. Using angles to make a Z shape, and basic sash stock. I believe they will be used in gravestone heads once they are anodised gold. The perspex sheets have a protective film, but are clear once removed. They will add a little lock when they are ready to install.
This we installed a few weeks back. The original window had a tree branch meet it with force.

OK one of the biggest differences in timber/aluminium windows are colonial bars. In timber each “square” is a seperate panel of glass, and the lines are full timber. In aluminium (usually) the bars are glued onto the one large panel of glass. The bars are siliconed on both sides to give the illusion of seperate pieces.
